A Courtship Remembered

You are cordially invited to celebrate the union of Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd on November 1st, 2025

Step beyond the pages of history and into the lives of one of America's most enduring unions.  This autumn, make the journey to Always Legendary Springfield, Illinois, and immerse yourself in a weekend of romance, reflection, and reverence as we celebrate the wedding day of Abraham and Mary Lincoln.

As Springfield celebrates the reenactment of Abraham and Mary Lincoln’s wedding, you’re invited to deepen the experience at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum.

  • See the original marriage license, signed by Rev. Charles Dresser—the very man who officiated the Lincolns’ union.
  • Marvel at Mary’s wedding skirt, a timeworn treasure offering a rare and intimate glimpse into the Lincolns’ wedding day. Preserved with care, this delicate garment whispers of a quiet moment in their unfolding story.    
Oak Ridge Cemetary (1500 Monument Ave)
Open Tours | 10:30 AM – Noon 

At 10:30am participate in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Lincoln Tomb. Then explore Oak Ridge Cemetery, visiting the gravesites of Reverend Charles Dresser—who officiated their wedding— and other notable figures who were in attendance.  Historically dressed site interpreters will be stationed at each gravesite, sharing stories and insights that bring these corners of history to life.

Acclaimed performer Pam Brown brings Mary Lincoln’s voice to life with intimate reflections on courtship, marriage, and the emotional landscape of their historic union

St. Paul’s Cathedral (815 S. 2nd St) 
2:00 PM

Step inside the very church where Reverend Dresser once pastored and witness a heartfelt reenactment of the Lincoln wedding. Featuring a period-costumed wedding couple and a specially recreated gown inspired by Mary Lincoln’s imagined attire—meticulously crafted using historical references and fashion details of the day.  Candlelight and live music evoke the warmth of a 19th-century celebration. After the vows, enjoy a reception that offers a taste of history: a cake made from an authentic 1840s recipe.


In celebration of this joyous day, Edward's Place will be open (11:00 AM - 1:00 PM) for visitors to enjoy light refreshments while touring Edwards Place and viewing the famed “courting couch” where Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd once sat during the early days of their romance.  ($5 suggested donation for this event)
