SPRINGFIELD, IL June 8, 2023– The Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau announces the appointment of a new Tourism Manager to lead the Springfield Visitors Center, collaborate with historic sites, and assist with earned travel media efforts for the City of Springfield.  

Darrin Thurman, currently serving as a Sales Associate with Visit Springfield has been selected as Tourism Manager.  Thurman joined the SCVB in June 2022 following a nearly 20 year career in the hospitality sector.  Most recently general manager for the Hampton Inn & Suites Southwest in Springfield for 12 years.

Darrin will assume the position beginning on Monday, June 12, 2023.  As Tourism Manager for Visit Springfield, he will be tasked with managing the Visitors Center, serving as liaison to state and federal historical sites, managing travel media onsite efforts and overseeing the History Comes Alive summer program, in its 14th season in 2023.
