History Comes Alive Returns for a 14th Season Starting June 2 | Springfield, Illinois | Visit Springfield



Springfield, IL, May 31 - The 14th Annual History Comes Alive program is kicking off in Springfield, Illinois! Starting this Friday, June 2 through August 6, 2023 Abraham & Mary Lincoln lead a cast of characters on a trip back in time. Meet the Lincolns at historic sites throughout the city and learn about their lives in Springfield. 

From historic portrayals at locations such as the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, the Lincoln Herndon Law Office Visitors Center, and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum to a Flag Lowering Ceremony at the Lincoln Tomb with the 114th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry Reactivated, visitors are invited to become a part of living history. Listen to Abraham deliver some of his most famous speeches at the Lincoln Depot, meet and greet both Mary Lincoln and General Ulysses S. Grant, and enjoy live music from the Municipal Band and an ice cream social at Edwards Place.

What’s happening in 2023?
“History Cooks: Food of Lincoln’s Springfield” every Friday afternoon at Noon.  Join Springfield area chefs and Lincoln Land Community College’s Culinary Program for this ten-week culinary series at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site will run from June 2 through August 4. Each program is complete with a cooking demonstration and a souvenir recipe card so you can re-create the tasty dishes at home!  Make sure to collect them all! – Fridays at Noon at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site

Free shuttle to Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site - Let us shuttle you back in time as you reserve your spot on the free Saturday morning shuttle to Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site. The reservation link can be found through https://visitspringfieldillinois.com/Landing/HistoryComesAlive.aspx. Saturday’s departing at 8:30am from Union Station Park

The Lincoln Troubadours are back! Back by popular demand, the singing group, The Lincoln Troubadours, will be performing three times on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Additional weekly special events in 2023 include: free guided tours of Ace Sign Company’s Sign Museum, a guided garden history walk at Lincoln Memorial Gardens, IDNR’s Walk, Hike, Bike series, and a guided tour with Springfield Walks. Special programs will be held at the African American History Museum, the Illinois State Museum, the Illinois State Military Museum, the Lincoln Home & Neighborhood, Edwards Place, the Lincoln Depot, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, and more.
