VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP
Get ready for an exciting evening on Friday, May 10, at 6 p.m., as we celebrate an event more than 200 years in the making! In honor of the emergence and possible convergence of cicada broods XIX and XIII in Central Illinois, SAA glass artist Kaylee Demlow will assemble a magnificent blown glass cicada as part of a free demo here on the SAA campus.
Kaylee will demonstrate the intricate glassblowing process using a plaster blow mold made from their handbuilt model. The limbs, eyes, and wings will be carefully crafted beforehand and then hot attached to the blown body, creating a remarkable masterpiece that will leave you in awe.
Don't miss this unique chance to witness the creation of a stunning work of art and celebrate a once-in-a-lifetime event, so mark your calendars and join us!
This event is free and open to the public.
